• Hi there,

A strange thing is happening on our website. IDK if it’s due to the last update, but I hope it will make sense, so bear with me and that is why I also took a screencast video.

So, the site has an online store, and I wanted to correct the Hungarian translation of the WooCommerce error messages if a client does not fill the required fields at checkout.

As you can see, I changed the language already but the error messages remain in Romanian (the site’s default language). I also changed back to Romanian to show it is the same.

The strange thing happens in translation/editing mode:

    • If the language is set to Romanian in the left editing/selection panel, I can see the Hungarian translation (it is already translated; timestamp 1:10), however
    • if I change the language to Hungarian in editing mode (timestamp 1:45), everything disappears, even the original string changes to some weird data, hence I cannot translate/fix the error messages. The point is, IF the language is set to Hungarian in translation/editing mode, the fields are messed up.
    • and as you can also see, sometimes it is hard to select the text (pen icon); I have to click several times.

    Any solution would be appreciated.

    Kind regards, Gabe

    Hello Gabe,

Thank you for the information provided!

I have checked those gettext strings using both the latest version of TranslatePress as well as older versions, and they should appear correctly translated.

The issue could be related to a conflict with some other code, and in this case, the next recommended step is to perform a conflict test (ideally in a staging environment):

??Briefly disable all other plugins and enable the default Twenty Twenty theme. Please also disable all add-ons. If this fixes the problem, enable everything one by one, checking each time to see when the problem returns.

If the issue still persists, please send me screenshots of the following tabs from TranslatePress Settings: Troubleshooting, Exclude Strings, and Debug.

It’s necessary to check if there are any notifications related to WooCommerce or TranslatePress in the admin dashboard regarding a data update, and if so, please proceed with it.

    Kind regards,

    Anca

    Hi Anca,

Thank you for your quick response.

I forgot to mention that I always start my “bug troubleshooting” by deactivating all the unnecessary plugins and with the default theme.

I also attach a screenshot (comparison) and another updated screencast video to show that – unfortunately for me – the issue still exists: as soon as I switch to Hungarian (2nd language) in the editing mode and select the same data (First name in our case in the screencast), the Original string changes from “First name” to “Scale Y”.

I hope we can find the culprit, or a solution.

IDK if it helps, but some case on my other sites it helped to “Optimize TranslatePress database tables“, but it returned with some errors: https://ibb.co/Dgk5dG9

    Thank you in advance
    Kind regards, Gabe
