I’m using WP 1.5.2 and I have things checked in the dashboard like this under options/discussion:

    # An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)
    # Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
    # Comment author must have a previously approved comment

I have all three of those checked off, yet I still get people leaving anonymous comments. I’ve tried everything to block anonymous comments but nothing seems to work. I want only registered users to be able to comment. I’m using the template Fastback also.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • You must have a “ghost” user. Check the users’ list and delete it.

I got a bad comment from a new registered user today even, so I deleted the user, and it said that when i do this all the users comments will be deleted as well, but his comment is still there. Nothing seems to work at all in managing comments.

I do have a user with no name, which is me from when i imported my posts from typepad. If I delete that user though I will likely lose many of my posts since I imported 154 posts from that.

So not sure what you mean as a ‘ghost user’?

When I go to your blog it says to me “You are logged in as .” And I have never visited your site before. That’s why anybody can post.

How can I fix this then? I also have this checked:

Allow people to post comments on the article

Does that mean let anyone? I could try to uncheck that, then maybe it will just let registered users. I wish the dashboard was more clear about some things.

I still think the problem is with the users. I remember similar issues here in the forum…
here we go, I found it:

Could of been the user I imported with then since it had no name listed. I gave it a name now, so hopefully it will work. I’m just afraid to delete that user since it holds a lot of my posts. I will have to wait and see if this fixes the problem. Thanks.
