• I just upgraded to 5.5.1 and now, when I tried to add a new user, there doesn’t seem to be any way to add a password for a new user? There is a button that says “Show Password” but there is to field to enter the password?

  • Having this problem as well. Tried disabling all plugins and using the default theme – the problem was still there…

    me same problem
    I cant add new user

Error: Passwords don’t match. Please enter the same password in both password fields.

Quick Fix that Worked for Me:

Try to click “Generate Password” if it doesn’t allow this to show up (Hide password doesn’t show when clicked).

    Refresh the page.

Click “Generate Password” (it should work this time) and fill in your password into the generated password field. Fill all fields as required and save.

I had the same not filling in password fields (with only 1 field showing) but the above fixed it and I have just created 4 new users easily.

    Hi Inndesign

    I was helping a non-profile and saw the Error:passowrd don’t match issue
    my case
It happens when someone added the users and delete the users afterward
then adding the same user would cause issue

I installed the 5.6 at home and created the same issue successfully. It looks like WordPress has to fix it. I don’t have any plugins installed but bare WordPress and brand new latest 5.6

If you are interested, hit PF12 when you received the error. the windows on the right or at the bottom should show a red cross icon. click on that you will be able to see what causes the error

SCRIPT5007: Unable to get property ‘data’ of undefined or null reference
    jquery.min.js (2,31670)

This is WordPress needs to fix. To workaround, download a plugin called
Enable Jquery Migrate Helper by WordPress

You need to activate the plugin -> change the plugin Settings not to use Jquery version Default from WordPress but the other one legal.1.1-wp2.4

Go back to add user again, you will be able to adding the same user

I ran into the same issue today while using Firefox. I disabled both Ad Block Plus and Disconnect and the issue resolved itself. When I re-enabled both, I had no issues. Not sure it was a fluke but maybe this will help someone else.

(@goviral) Hello and thank you for your message.

I had the same problem. “Error: Passwords don’t match. Please enter the same password in both password fields. ”

I tried everything, I disabled all extensions (Wordfence included) … to no avail.

Your little tip was the only thing that worked. Having said that, I had to exit my site and re-enter for each new subscriber.

There is an error somewhere in newer versions of WordPress. We hope that a real solution will be found.

Generate password is also broken here

    im having the same issue:

    I cant add new user
    – cant create password because there is suppose to be 2 password fields ( Enter and R-enter password), I can only see the enter password. therefore its not letting me proceed
    -cannot generate password
    – cannot unhide password

I have the same problem. Hope the vendor(s) release an update that fix this. Why do you think they didn’t see this problem before releasing the product?

@jseverson solution worked for me. Disable Adblock!

I haven’t installed AdBlock but it doesn’t work for me either. With access to the page with IE and dll, the second password can be seen and written but, clearly, such a thing cannot be suggested to users.
I’ve tried with IE in W10, Chrome and Firefox, both in W10 and Ubuntu, but it never works.

When I write “With access to the page with IE and dll, the second password can be seen and written but, clearly, such a thing cannot be suggested to users.” I means I can read/write both pas11 and pass2 object ID by code (VB), not by GUI.

Disabling the popup blocker that is built into safari worked for me here, thanks! (Preferences > Websites > select the page you are on > click on Popups)

Nasty issue, having it since months. No one from WP seems to bother.

    – Generate password button dead
    – Hide/Show password button dead
    – No second field for password confirmation

    Existing users:

    – Set new password button dead

When trying to change existing users info (without touching passwords):

    – Error message: “Passwords don’t match. Please enter the same password in both password fields.”

    What doesn’t help:
    – Page refresh
    – Clear cache
    – Different browsers
    – Adblock deactivated
    – All plugins deactivated

None of this makes any sense!
And I’m starting to wonder if we’re just a tiny minority because nothing changes. Or if people in general don’t bother about this basic function.

    Hi everyone,

    i had the same problem.
I had on my child/functions.php an action. I removed it and works fine.

    check yours.
