'Can't select database' Error :(
-
Hi there, how are you?
I wanted to do a fresh install of the wordpress 3.0 software but have run into a very basic problem. The wordpress software has been uploaded to my server, and i’ve entered the correct username and SQL details – but i’m still being presented with the ‘Can’t select database’ page.
The message says;
Are you sure it exists?
Does the user joeheart have permission to use the wordpress database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?1. In the ‘database name’ field, i write ‘wordpress’ – as this is the name of the folder containing the wordpress software.
2. Permissions on the wordpress file are set as normal (755).
3. I have tried changing the ‘database name’ field to ‘myusername_wordpress’, but that hasn’t worked either.I’ve tried making the wp-config.php file using the wordpress browser interface and by uploading one i’ve edited manually, but neither works. I’ve also read practically every thread relating to this problem i could find, but none have provided me with an answer.
If anyone out there knows what the problem might be, i’d love to hear your thoughts! ??
Thanks for reading, Joe
