• hello i have been trying for one day now to debug this thing
    i have not even eaten and now i need to go to work.

    i am hosting with webintellects
    i created the directory and database but i still get the error

    “Can’t select database
    We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the wp02 database.

    Are you sure it exists?
    On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?
    If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

    Okay i admit i don’t know how to setup one, i am a webdesigner but not a techie like that
    can someone please assist me, my hosting company techies are offering very little assistance, the purpose of my new blog is to assist with finding a job, am really desperate now

  • That means it can’t find the name of your database. You have something typed into the wp-config file, but it’s not the right thing.

    For example, some hosts (mine does, anyway) will give you a username to log into your hosting account. We’ll say yours is “sunny”. When you create a database (we’ll use the name you gave up there), you typed in “wp02”. Now, you’ve entered “wp02” in your wp-config.php file BUT many hosts will prepend your username to it, so it’s really: “sunny_wp02”

    You need to log into your hosting account and look for the section that manages your databases. I have yet to see a host that doesn’t tell you what your connection settings area. It should tell you right there what you should be using.

    i dont follow
    are you referring to the Your MySQL username
    or The name of the database

    because my database name is wp02
    and my username is admin1
    to login to my hosting account i have a different username

    so where do i add this prefix?

    i have tried shifting the names around nothing works
    this is my code in notepad:

    <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘wp02’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘admin1’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘*******’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    // You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
    $table_prefix = ‘wp02_’; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen language must be installed to wp-content/languages.
    // For example, install de.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to ‘de’
    // to enable German language support.
    define (‘WPLANG’, ”);

    /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

    define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__).’/’);
    require_once(ABSPATH.’wp-settings.php’);
    ?>

    and this is what i get on site, after editing it to what it was originally

    this is truly madness
