• Hello

I have downloaded WP and I get this prompt:

    “Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the wordpress database.

    Are you sure it exists?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem? “

I have double checked everything and nothing seems to work. I need help.

    Thanks
    Fourlane

  • Does the db exist?

    Who’s the host?

Yes, the db does exist and the host is localhost.

Is this a commercially hosted installation or one at home?
    If commercially, who?

If at home, have you confirmed with other apps (phpMyAdmin perhaps) that you have php and mysql properly talking to each other?

This is an at home installation. How do I confirm that I have php and mssql properly talking to each other? I am sorry to appear so uninformed but this is fairly new to me.
    I do appreciate your help.

I’d personally install phpMyAdmin and see how it works. But we’re wandering a bit far afield from WP support now.

Perhaps this tutorial will help? https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/
