• I set up my database and it originally worked. I was setting some things up and about 30 minutes later I got the dreaded Can’t Select Database. I tried to change the settings, wondering if I accidentally changed them, but it still is not working.

    I have tried username_wordpress, wordpress, _wordpress, mydomain_wordpress, mydomain_com_wordpress
    None seem to work.
My host company is Web Intellects.
    Any ideas?

  • Because it originally worked, I’d say that the data in your wp-config.php was correct.

At least, at that time. So now it’s time to figure out what changed. You say you were “setting some things up” … what did you set up? Is the database still there?

I have returned to my original settings and it still is not working. When I say changes, I was simply doing things on the WP dashboard like changing options or adding links. Should I try to reinstall or is there something else to try?

    Thanks.

Is your database available? Try using something like phpMyAdmin to see if you can access that database.

When I look in phpMyAdmin it says there are no databases. However when I look on my hosting control panel it lists my database mikemaruska_com_-_wordpress.

Is there something else I should try in phpMyAdmin? I’m not sure what other information to give that would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Well you should see, in phpMyAdmin the database on the left panel. If you click on that you should see the database tables.

I guess you could be ‘logging’ into a different database server…If you get into phpMyAdmin from your control panel (without having to enter a database user/password) then you would think you are connecting to the correct server.

Might be a question for your host.

I checked with my host, and it was indeed a problem on their end. Thank you for the help and patience.
