Installed the plugin (read about it here) and created my first Series Category. So far, so good.
But when starting a new post, there’s only the ‘Not part of a series’ select option. My series don’t display so I can’t pick one.

I’m on the latest WP, using the classic editor. I’ve seen several support threads about similar issues, and found a workaround: start a new post, draft it, go to ‘quick edit’ and select the series category there. Alas – mine don’t show there either, just the ‘Not part of a series’ in the dropdown …

Sidenote: I deleted the plugin, having checked the ‘delete from database’ options in settings. Couldn’t find another plugin so installed this one again to try again. All the data was still there …

Here are the screenshots – 1 shows the categories I created, 2 shows I can’t select any of them.

Wasted some more time testing with *all* plugins de-activated except this one obvs, but still no dice. Everything is up to date, no other issues at all with anything on this site or even this hosting package.

Any help welcome as there doesn’t seem to be an alternative to this plugin ??

    Hi @lizzy-belle

Please dont be mistaken. The one that will show in that sidebar is Series, not Series category.

Kindly re-check it. And let me know if the issue persists

This is where I created the Series Categories:

Rankmath doesn’t detect anything either and situation is as posted above.

@lizzy-belle Riza is saying that you need to create a “Series”, please.

“Series Categories” are the way to organize your Series, not organize your posts.

    For example:

    • Series Categories: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
    • Series: January 2023, February 2023, March 2023
    • Post: “Welcome to our January 2023 Edition”

    Your docs say (yoursite /knowledge-base/installation-series):

To get started with PublishPress Series, go to “Manage Series”. Enter the detail to create your first series.

All I have is a warning: “You have no series available to publish.” There is no button, link or anything to add anything on that screen. So I figured I was in the wrong place somehow.

How do I add anything here?

Except for the subtle little banner on top of the page, and the little ‘thx for using wp’ link at the bottom, I can’t find any kind of link or button to add anything? Which is how I ended up one link above this one, assuming I misunderstood.

@lizzy-belle Thanks, those are fair and helpful points.

We’ll add a link to “You have no series available to publish.” in the next release of the plugin.

We’ve also update the documentation for the new menu links: https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/installation-series/

    Thread Starter Lizzy Belle

    (@lizzy-belle)

We’ll get there in the end, but do you notice a difference in your updated screenshot and mine?

    Yours:

    Mine:

I posted the menu screeny an hour ago. This one may be more clear, but the question remains the same … Between Tags & Series Catagories, I don’t have a link. So I’ll ask once more: how do I add my categories?

Yes, something is not right with your set-up.

Do you have any other plugins that use the “Series” taxonomy?

    Thread Starter Lizzy Belle

    (@lizzy-belle)

No. Also tried it with all other plugins disabled. Still no dice.

It’s the end of the day for me, and we’re not getting anywhere … Can you suggest an alternative plugin perhaps?

    Hi @lizzy-belle

Sorry to hear that. Sometimes these problems happen because WordPress sites have so many moving pieces.

We don’t have recommendations, but we’re here to help on our plugin if needed.
