• I have built about 10 wordpress sites now and never have this problem.
In the media library I upload images and it just shows a blank thumbnail.
If I select view, the images is still displays the thumbnail, but if I select edit the image appears.
I have tried inserting the image into posts and pages but it still links to a blank thumbnail.
I have changed the theme but no change.
I have gone to one of my other sites and copied the HTML from one of my posts and inserted it into the new site and it works fine pointing at that sites media library.
The whole problem seems to be this sites media library!!
    Can anybody help.

    Paul

I still can’t get to the bottom of this.
    here is my website https://www.retnilkvids.co.uk.
I have built and used so many wordpress sites what is the matter with this one.
It just will not show images I have uploaded.
In media library you can see that a file has been uploaded with file name, file size, and dimensions but it will not show the image!!!
As I said before if you go to edit the image in the media library it will appear, you can make adjustments to it and save it but again the image will not show.
When you install the image in a post or page it will not show on the page, only a blank thumb nail the size the image should be.

Have you checked the file permissions? Have you checked that anti-hotlinking isn’t enabled on the server?

Have you tried deactivating all plugins and switching to a default theme to see if any are causing this?

    Hi WPyogi,

you will have to take it easy I am no WP genius!
I have filzilla and can do right click on index.php for file permissions is that what I am suppose to be checking and what should I expect.
The anti-hotlinking I am not sure about I have submitted a question to the hosts 123reg.co.uk.
This is a brand new site, I have just purchased a new domain name and hosting package exactly the same as a few other sites I have. There are not any plug ins yet I have only created two posts and uploaded four images that’s it.
I have two other sites both with 123reg both running 3.8 no problem.
    Hope you can help.

    regards

    Hi WPyogi,

I thought I would let you know that I have had a reply from 123reg support who are always very helpful with the following that has sorted my problem.

    Dear Paul,

Thank you for contacting 123-reg on the 20th December 2013.

I have set the file permissions for your hosting to 755 for folders and 644 for files. This should now allow you to view and upload images correctly within WordPress.

If we can be of any further help with regard to this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind Regards

    Adelina

    Hi Paul,

I’m having exactly the same problem as you – on a site which allowed me to upload images perfectly fine yesterday afternoon. Very strange. I’ve made sure that all the file permissions are set to 755 as per the 123-reg post above, but that doesn’t seem to have fixed the issue.

Did it work for you in the end?

WPYogi – I’ve tried everything on your list. I’m also hosted with 123-reg. Any further tips?

    Thanks!

@cloudforestbryony – based on the above post, I’d suggest you ask 123-Reg for help. Also be sure that anti-hotlinking isn’t enabled someplace.

    Hi Cloud,

123reg support are very good and they sorted my problem out very quickly.
    Raise a ticket with them.
I thought I had all my file permissions set correctly but they found one that wasn’t.

    regards

Agree with paultinkler – I had permissions set wrongly. 123reg sorted it out during a live chat.

In the media library you can see that a file has been uploaded with file name, file size, and dimensions but it will not show the image! It does not even show google maps or scr tags from other sites.

When you install the image in a post or page it will not show on the page, only a blank thumb nail where the image should be.
