I activated the UTM addon, but still I can’t see the hits in ACQUISITION. The only time I see when I manually add the ./?utm_sourc part at the end of the URL. I thought it automatically adds when we browse through the app.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Upon my test I noticed that you have enabled our UTM Tracking Addon and set the UTM Source parameter as npwa. Via the Add-on within our plugin, if any user add the PWA and if they open the PWA from Homescreen icon, then only the UTM Parameter will be triggered. As for checking the hits over Google Analytics – Click Acquisition >> All Traffic >> Source/Medium . You can see npwa if any user already added PWA and opened by tapping the icon on home screen.

I tested it from my mobile by adding the pwa to home screen, but it doesn’t trigger the UTM parameter. it shows like this in google analytics.

Can you please share the screenshot from Acquisition >> All Traffic >> Source/Medium ?

I have no idea how some of the records were added, but some of the records were added here because I manually triggered the parameter via chrome. I tested the site opening via the PWA app on home screenshot, but it doesn’t record in Acquisition.

Do I have to change the configuration of Nginx? I use Nginx as the web server.

https://i.imgur.com/IR9UY04.png As from the screenshot I can see that the UTM Tracking is working perfectly upon your website. npwa is the UTM source which you set upon our settings field and upon medium you haven’t added any parameter that’s why its showing as (not set).

basically it shows the source as DIRECT.

but it doesn’t record always. I visited the website via the app more than a dozens of time, but it only recorded a few times like when I manually triggered the parameter, and in some other time I have no idea.

basically it shows the source as DIRECT.

No at all. See the table field (It clearly states the Source/Medium as npwa/(none) ) upon the screenshot which you shared.

What you are saying is true, but as you saw in other screenshot it shows as DIRECT when I visit the website via the app. The ones you saw were added because I manually triggered the parameter a few more time, and somehow it’s also added without my intervention, because it shows the country as India, so it’s not me. I visited the website, navigated to a dozens of pages but still none of them were in the records when I added page as the secondary dimension. Maybe you can add the app to your phone, and open the site via the app, and then I will see whether your hits are recorded in the google analytics. I don’t have two phones to test it out, so it’s a big help if you could do that.

I just visited again and checked the google analytics, as you can see my visit is recorded but it shows the source as DIRECT. The other one (google) is from a visitor not from me so just ignore it.

The user who visited the PWA and showing upon UTM as npwa with country as India is me, don’t get worry over that ??

All I can say is it doesn’t work. the parameter isn’t triggered when opening via the app, but it’s triggered if I typed the URL in the browser with parameter. See the ones I manually triggered are in the records, but the visits I made via the app weren’t in the records with npwa parameter. they were recorded as DIRECT instead.

I think the case why you are not seeing the UTM parameters not working, will most probably because of the following reason:

You may added the PWA to your Homescreen while installing our plugin, and before Activating the UTM Add-on.

Upon this case, once you activate the UTM Addon after adding the PWA – the UTM parameters won’t get added to a earlier added PWA. PWA is functioning with the help of manifest. Once you install PWA, the manifest may be cached upon your device.

Upon your case most probably as you haven’t added the UTM initially, the UTM parameters may not be added to the Start page URL and due to that there’s a chance that all the hits are showing as direct.

If you made any changes to our settings like changing of Icon, Start Page, Application Name, Short Name, UTM upon our settings it won’t get replicated upon the manifest instantly. It may take 24-48 hours, sometimes even more days or weeks – based upon the caching.

Steps to easily troubleshoot the issue
    a) First of all you need to uninstall the PWA already added upon your device.
    b) Clear the browsing data and cache upon your browser.
    c) Visit the website again and add the PWA from the prompt.
    d) Finally Check the Google Analytics.

oh thanks. Now it works perfectly. ??
I think clearing cache did the trick.
