Can't search for new plugins

When I go to Add New and search for new plugins I can the following message:

An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.remarpro.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

I have de-activated my theme and that hasn’t helped, I have no other plugins other than ones that come with install and neither is activated yet, this is a fresh wordpress install.

any ideas?
