    Moving from a shared server (where I have a WF premium key in use) to a dedicated server, using same domain. Building the new WP site in development with access through changes in local hosts file. Installed WordPress and WordFence (free key). Noticed that scans will not run. Tried with “Start all scans remotely” options checked, still won’t start. I’m assuming since my new site is not publicly available, I can’t start a scan. Once complete with development I’ll point the domain to the name servers and it should resolve, would the scans be able to start then?

    Are there any messages in the yellow boxes on the Wordfence scan page? Or any messages in the new server’s error_log file?

    The regular scans can usually run even on sites that are not publicly available, so the problem is most likely with the development setup, using the hosts file or the server’s configuration.

    On the Wordfence Options page, near the bottom, you can try the link that says “Click to test connectivity to the Wordfence API servers”, to make sure the development site can reach the Wordfence servers.

    There are no messages on the scan page (yellow boxes). No observed messages in the error log.

    Connectivity test:

    I looked at the link you sent:

    – I am not using a “Under Construction” plugin
    – There is no secondary password to protect access to /wp-admin/
    – Did not find wfStatus in error logs
    – Accessing /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php gave a blank page with “0”

    In a few days we will be done with website development and will point the domain to this new server and apply our premium key. If it is still an issue I’ll let you know.

    Thanks for checking those items — it is most likely that something in the current development setup is preventing the scans from running, then. I will watch for your reply when the new site goes live. Let us know how it goes!

    Yup a few hours after the DNS values were changed with the registrar the scan ran on it’s own. However, nearly 30 hrs after that point I was still seeing issues. I was think it was simply because the IP wasn’t fully propagated, but also I forgot to downgrade the old site WF license (to a free one) before starting the whole process. Nearly every time I went to the old site to change to a free license I was logged out. I saw this on either site for various options/settings. Make a change, I was logged off. I’m assuming it was trying to connect with the other site. After many tries it finally worked and I replaced the premium license with a free one on the old host.
