The original “WooCommerce Shipping + Tax” plugin has a handy option allowing you to reprint a new shipping label for a package. This is helpful if the package is lost in shipping or the label is damaged by the post office or the wrong product is shipped and a corrected order needs to be shipped out. Sadly, this new “WooCommerce Shipping” plugin does not have that ability. Is this something that you could add?

  • Hi there!

?I just want to note that WooCommerce Shipping is a brand new plugin written from the ground up and not just an update to WooCommerce Shipping & Tax, so the features will differ. A lot of the decisions around WooCommerce Shipping was made through fulfillment research and interviews with existing merchants.

Just creating a new label is not a general flow for a merchant when fulfilling orders or damaged goods as it has impact on stock levels and accounting.

A more widely accepted approach that I might suggest is creating a new order and just discounting it to 100%, this way your stock levels will stay in sync.

I do want to highlight that on our radar there is a feature to allow creating once off labels that are not tied to orders, unfortunately this is not high on our priority list atm.

I hope this gives you some insight into why things are the way they are and at least give you a way to overcome this hurdle.

Thank you for this reply, @shahzeenfarooq

I understand your reasoning. However, generating a new label for an existing order is very helpful for:

    1. Merchants who are not using WooCommerce for detailed inventory tracking (e.g. just using it for “In Stock” or “Out of Stock”) and have a package that (1) is lost in shipping or (2) the label was damaged by the Post Office or (3) the wrong product was shipped and a corrected order needs to be shipped out.
    2. Merchants who are using WooCommerce for detailed inventory tracking and decide that in many situations it’s much easier to reprint a new label and manually adjust their inventory level than it would be to re-create an entirely new order and re-add the products from the previous order and re-enter the customer’s information and then generate a brand new shipping label. For example, my customer noticed a defect in a CD and had to re-ship 50 orders with a replacement CD. Manually generating 50 shipping labels would have been a huge headache but “WooCommerce Shipping + Tax” made it simple for them with the “Reprint New Shipping Label” option. A simple inventory adjustment and they were golden. Re-creating 50 new orders would have taken them considerably more time and frustration, which is why they specifically contacted me and requested that I roll their site back to the previous “WooCommerce Shipping + Tax” plugin.

Please consider that this ability, which seems simple to implement in the new plugin, is the 5th most-requested feature for WooCommerce Shipping: https://woocommerce.com/feature-request/multiple-shipping-labels-for-an-order/ It also shares similarities to the #1 requested feature for WooCommerce Shipping: https://woocommerce.com/feature-request/add-ability-to-print-return-labels/

    Hello robertstaddon,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I appreciate your detailed explanation.

I can also see you that have already replied to the feature request.
Our devs are actively monitoring the feedback and feature requests.

Hopefully, there will be an update about it in the future.
For now, the only available solution is the one mentioned in the previous reply.

Let me know if you have any other questions. ??

    Best regards.
