• I’ve been using Polylang on my site to make it English and French. This is the first time I use Polylang, so I guess I fubar’d something because now I have a Featured category (English) translated to a Vedettes category (French), and absolutely no Uncategorized category (English or French).

Furthermore, I can’t delete Featured or Vedettes and I can’t unlink them each other.

How do I get back to having a Featured category without a translation and an Uncategorized category without a translation?

I’m using the Content View plugin, and Polylang integrates very well when switching languages. But some categories have bilingual posts, so there is no translation, there’s only one post in one category. And the easiest solution in my case (contributors need a super-simple solution to post by email) would be having one category that shows-up regardless of language the viewer is in.

    Thanks,

    Hi

    Uncategorized category without a translation?

    That’s not possible.
WordPress sets by default the Uncategorized category. Polylang creates automatically a translation of this default category with the same name and adding the language code in the slug. You can modify their names, their slugs. But you can’t *delete* them or *untranslate* them.

Featured and Vedettes are your english and french Uncategorized category that you have certainly renamed.

would be having one category that shows-up regardless of language the viewer is in.

That’s not possible. A category without language won’t be available in the categories metabox.

    Thanks for the answers.

That’s certainly possible, probable in fact.

A category without language won’t be available in the categories metabox.

I have since created an Announcements category that is NOT translated. I write the post in English and assign it to the Announcements category (it’s available as a choice); then when I view the French page that hosts the view Content View pulls in the English posts from that Category. It works exactly the way I wanted.

I just wish I could get my original Categories back, so the base behaviour of WordPress is still there.

Sorry, opened a new thread for an issue I ran into with this.
