    Hi,

I tried to remove the wrong GitHub Account from my WordPress Profile but the Remove button doesn’t do anything.

There is no error message showing after I click remove GitHub Account. When I click the button Save Changes after that I received this error message: “There was a problem updating some of your profile information. Please try again.”. Is there anything wrong with my account?

I also tried to revoke access and remove the WordPress Applications from GitHub but it still doesn’t work.

  • Hi @viivue. You should not even need to click Save Changes after clicking (remove) next to the GitHub account.
I do still see it is linked. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies?

I even tried to login and remove GitHub account with another browser but it is still linked, the Remove button doesn’t do any thing, the browser is just reloaded and there is no error message display. Is there anything else I can do to remove GitHub account from my profile?
This is the screen recorder I made when clicking Remove GitHub button as you can see the page reloads but the account is still linked: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hB2060g7RLcC7w2cBEeN8HGdNzXbVVY7/view?usp=sharing

@viivue I just removed the Git username on my own account.

    The behaviour is this:
    – you click on the remove link
    – it reloads the page
    – the username is removed

Thus, since I can see in your video the page does not fully reload (there should be an URL call with a nonce visible), you have probably a error on said page. Please open the console and check if you see any JS errors.
Also it might be that something is – for whatever reason – stopping that link to reload the page and do its action.
I am not sure, maybe ad blockers can do that?

Thus I would say check with other browsers, and with a cleared cookie/cache, but you mention to already have done that, so the only I can think of is that generally on your computer something is stopping clicks from working, like an aggressive antivirus blocking things, or some other errors.

Have you the possibility of trying from another machine?

I think there should be some clue in the browser console, given the behaviour you show on the video…

As you can see in my screen recorder, the page is reloaded after I click Remove button (please check the favicon, it’s reloaded). I don’t think it’s because my computer or any ad blockers because I did remove GitHub account from the other account with my computer and it’s working. It’s just not working for this specific account.

I also check the console log and there is no JS errors. I even login with my tablet (or even the incognito mode on my browser) and try to remove GitHub account but it’s the same result, the account is still linked.

Is there anything else I can do to remove the linked account?

@otto42 : Unfortunately it’s still not working. I attached the screen recorder here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_0xFuAFkpavoQQEZr1P27r63Orfoa3wL/view?usp=sharing (The page is reloaded but there is nothing updated). Could you help to check again please? Or is there anything else I can do to remove the linked account?

Did you try to revoke the access to the guthub account, like it suggests below that?

@otto42 : Yes, I’ve revoke the access to GitHub account at the beginning but it’s still not working. That’s why I start this topic.

Is there any update how I can remove the linked GitHub Account from my profile?

    Hi @viivue

I apologise for the difficulty here.
I’m unable to determine what exactly happened here, but your GitHub link was stuck in limbo – It was only partially linked still, unfortunately the part that was required to properly “unlink” it wasn’t set.

I’ve manually cleared it for you, and so far haven’t found any other users suffering the same issue.

    Hello @dd32
    I am facing same problem.
Can you please help me with removing the linked wrong GitHub Account from my profile. I also tried to revoke access and remove the WordPress Applications from GitHub but it still doesn’t work.

@zabiranik I’ve fixed up your account too.

I’ve got another report of this elsewhere, so I’ll file a Meta ticket and see about adding some additional checks to catch this and let it be cleared properly.

@dd32 Thanks for the help! Really appreciate it.
