Can't post, edit or change theme on new 3.9 install

    I installed wordpress 3.9 today and it doesn’t seem to be working. I can log in ok and the site appears fine under the domain name but when I try to post it will let me add a title but I can’t type anything into the post text box. On Chrome the icons won’t show either and I can’t select any of the formats. In Internet Explorer the icons show and I can select but I still can’t type any text. Also I get a blank page when I go to customize and I can’t select anything. Also can’t search for any new themes. Basically I can’t really do anything. There are no plugins active so they can’t be interfering. The only way I can post anything is through the Android app on my tablet which seems to be working fine. Any help is much appreciated and I’m no expert so please be gentle with me ??

  • Delete your current theme’s functions.php file via FTP (don’t forget to make a backup) and then visit and change the theme to a default one.

    If you have a default theme already installed, then change it right now.

    I only downloaded wordpress yesterday for the first time so I only have the 3 default themes. I have not been able to add a new theme because of the problem I am having. I’ve tried the 3 default themes twentytwelve, twentythirteen and twentyfourteen and the fault doesn’t change.

    Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the root wp-config.php & .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks Esmi. I uninstalled the whole thing as I hadn’t been able to change anything anyway. I checked the FTP and all files were gone and I re-installed and unfortunately still have the same problem. Its strange that it works fine on the android app but won’t work through the PC

    You aren’t alone, I’m going through the same thing ?? It seems like most people are having issues with the visual editor vanishing. Ugh.

    Looks like I’ve just sorted it. I followed the instructions in step 2 on the page below and it looks much much better. Just had to enable script de-bug in the wp-config.php
