I’m running a simple WordPress 6.4.2 site for my blog, with Jetpack installed. Other people are able to post comments on my blog entries, but when I post a comment, it never appears – neither on my site nor under “Comments” or “Spam” on the WordPress dashboard.

If I look at my browser’s network inspector when I post a comment, I see that a POST to https://jetpack.wordpress.com/jetpack-comment/ and a 500 error from that site in response.

However, if I turn off Jetpack’s “Let visitors use a WordPress.com or Facebook account to comment” feature and refresh my blog page, I can then successfully post a comment.

Why wouldn’t that Jetpack setting work? Is there something misconfigured on my site?

    Hi @bskendig,

Thank you for patiently waiting for our response.

It seems you’ve encountered an issue regarding the commenting feature on your Jetpack-enabled WordPress site. A 500 error generally indicates a server-side problem, which means that there may be an issue with the communication between your site and the Jetpack service.

To help troubleshoot this problem further, could you please provide your website URL? This will allow us to examine potential configuration issues or conflicts that might be causing the problem. If you don’t want to make it public, you can share it privately using the contact form here.

    Thank you!

Thank you for your reply! I followed your link to look for a contact form, but all that “Contact Support” page shows me is a list of links to community forums.

So I was going to give you a link to my site so you could have a look, but first I turned “Let visitors use a WordPress.com or Facebook account to comment” back on and tried leaving myself a comment to make sure the problem still occurs …

… and, of course, now everything works fine. So it looks like that was a temporary glitch?

Thank you again for your offer to help. If the problem comes up again, I’ll let you know.
