Can't open wp-config-sample.php

    Hi all who may have a solution for us here.

    I am needing to open wp-config-sample.php to edit and rename as instructed but I get this message:

    The file ‘wp-config-sample.php’ cannot be opened:
    The associated program (WX_DDE#”C:\Program Files
    (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5\Dreamweaver.
    exe”.”wp-config-sample.php”##System#) could not be found.
    Please check your filetype associations.

    I know I need to edit in NotePad. So is this telling me my
    wp-config-sample.php was wrote in Dreamweaver?

    If so how do I work around this to be able to open in NotePad
    to edit???

    Appreciate any direction besides Goggle it for 3 days. LOL.
    Then Google for another 3 days after that???

  • Um, questions about your pc’s operating system are a little outside of the scope of this forum, but you can open your file in notepad by simply “right-clicking” upon the file and choosing “open with >”. If notepad is not one of the options, you’ll need to open the default applications menu and choose it there.

    Thanks for reply, that was quick. OK, so I right clicked on wp-config-sample.php at filezilla and I don’t get an open with options prompt. Just the standard, download, add files to queue,view/edit, create directory,refresh, delete, rename, copy url’s to clipboard,file permissions.

    I already tried to download and then open file but got same message.

    You mentioned operating system, are you saying Dreamwaver may be some kind of default in my pc settings?

    You need to download the file, open it with notepad, and re-upload it with your ftp client. You can either open it in notepad the way I suggested earlier, or you can open notepad and go to File > Open and find it that way.
