I use Microsoft Webmatrix to create my wordpress site. Yesterday everything was fine. When I start webmatrix my site usually pops up in the left box with all the usual directories ( “wp-admin”, “wp-content” and so on in the main folder named “wordpress”.) But today it did not. Some other directory called Website1 showed up instead.

Since this was not my site, I tried to open mine instead. I can’t remember doing this before so I did not find it at first. Eventually I clicked file> open> folder as site and found my ordinary sitefolder which I have named “wordpress” in the “My web sites” directory. I opened the “wordpress” folder in webmatrix. It looks like it usually does, but I cannot launch a local version of my site in a browser. Why? The google chrome error is:

    “This site can’t be reached
    localhost refused to connect.
    Search Google for localhost 58262
    ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED”

One thing that happened that hasn’t happened before: when I opened my site webmtarix said it had to install some php files.

Also, yesterday it said som IIS files were missing so I went into a folder (can’t remember which) to choose new ones.

I’m sorry if this makes little sense or lacks details, but can someone please help? I don’t know why I cant access my site today.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder (if you have created such folder). The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins). If you don’t have access to your admin area, use FTP , or your web-host’s cPanel or whatever file management application your host provides (no Dashboard access required). Navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder by adding “-old” to the end of the folder name. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

    Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately nothing of this worked. Any other suggestions?
I’m going to try re-installing microsoft webmatrix.
