    Hi

For some reason nothing happens no matter what changes I make on my blog. https://www.liberatingthespirit.com.

I want to make changes to the widgets in the sidebar but it remains the same no matter what I do. I’ve tried the other sidebars as well, nothing.

Then I’ve tried to change the theme, but again nothing happens. I can’t post either. It’s like the entire site just froze.

I suspect it might have something to do with one of the cache plugins I’ve used. I’ve had WP Super Cache installed at one point, but it never caused any problems. When I switched to W3 Total Cache it was still fine. It wasn’t until yesterday when I installed News Announcement Scroll that things started getting stuck.

After a few changes to the widgets everything had frozen. I uninstalled the News Announcement Scroll but everything was still frozen.

After I had uninstalled the plugin the widget still showed (partly) on just one post and nowhere else.

Then I figured it might have something to do with the W3 Total Cache, so I uninstalled that as well. Nothing. Then I checked if there were any files leftover from the plugin in the database. There was no trace of W3. Instead I saw a bunch of old leftover files from WP Super Cache.

So, I removed all the Super Cache files I could find and edited the .htaccess file. This didn’t help either.

This morning I saw that the News Announcement Scroll widget that was stuck on one of the posts was gone. So I figured the changes I had made yesterday and the files I had deleted had solved it, but it didn’t. I still can’t change anything.

I’ve checked the site with 3 different browsers, 2 of which are in secret/incognito mode, and with my phone.

Everything is updated to the latest version.

    Any idea what’s causing this?

    Any help is very appreciated!

    All the best
    Casper

  • It still looks like there’s a cache plugin active (Look at the source code). Very hard to say what’s wrong without access… everything looks good from the frontend.
Are you sure all cache plugins are inactive?

Yes, both of the cache plugins are uninstalled. I don’t have any cache plugin installed at the moment.

Since I don’t have any cache plugin installed is it then safe to delete any file named something with cache?

Like, I can see there’s an “object-cache.php.bak” file in WP Content and an “advanced-cache.php” in Public HTML. Can I delete these?

I’m not sure what the source code is. Is that the php files I can view in the editor or is it the files in the database?

In case you’re not sure if you can delete, just rename first. That should have the same effect but keeps you a backup.

I see you have something called “fast-velocity-minify” installed, which seems to also have some kind of caching… so you should also try what happens if you turn that off. In the code it says:
    <!– refreshing cache –>

So there must be some caching going on.
Please turn that off and try again.
    Thanks

I renamed the two cache files mentioned above and deactivated the fast velocity minify. Neither changed anything.

The rest of the installed plugins are:
    Akismet Anti-Spam
    Breadcrumb NavXT
    Catch Updater (Deactivated)
    Enhanced Media Library
    Fast Secure reCAPTCHA
    Fast Velocity Minify (Deactivated)
    Jetpack
    Official MailerLite Sign Up Forms
    Organize Series
    P3 (Deactivated)
    ShortPixel Image Optimizer
    Social Media Feather
    WP DoNotTrack
    WP-PageNavi
    Yoast SEO

I don’t think any of those cache. But I might be wrong?

    you seem to have a caching proxy, here’s some pointers in your HTTP response headers;

    Server:”nginx/1.10.3″
    Via:”1.1 localhost.localdomain”
    X-Proxy-Cache:”HIT”

Could be your hoster, have you talked to them?

Thank you so much for your help both of you! The host had a cache running and I was able to disable it. Once again thank you. I really appreciate it!

happy to be able to help @zerolizer0 ??

    have nice day,
    frank

You’re welcome! Even if Frank gave the vital information! Great Job @futtta!
