Can't login wp-admin, running 3.1.4

    Hi there.

    I know there is massive attacks going on with WordPress at the minute and people are having issues login in. There have been a few posts out there suggesting to change some of the code wp-login and .htaccess and the likes, I’m hosting on 000webhost, dropped them a line and they suggested changing wp-login I’ve tried these, but none of the fixes seem to be working.

    I’m not to sure if this is to do with the version of WordPress I’m running, 3.1.4. If this is where the issue lies, is it worth updating? And is the best way to jump to 3.5.1? Or if not, how would I go about it?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for getting in touch.

    I have had a read over the link, but I’m unable to change my username at the minute as I’m not able to get in to change it, unless I can change some code somewhere.

    My password has not been broken before and doesn’t exist in the dictionary, so on that front, fingers cross, it should be OK. Once I do get in, I’m going to get the limited login attempts working.

    If I am to limit the access to an IP, will I then be able to get in? I’m using 000webhost and not allowing any access to wp-login at all.

    You need to speak to the hosting company about this. We’ve compiled a number of ways you can limit access to wp-admin on Brute Force Attacks. Ask the hosts to review this page and see what they (or you) can do to limit the damage to their servers.

    I have to say, though, that we generally do not recommend hosting WordPress on a free host. Ultimately, you get what you pay for and you may find that 000webhost aren’t willing to look at other options. In which case, it would be time to consider using paid hosting elsewhere.

    Can I ask what actually happened? Did the hosts change their policy?

    I have a weird but in some ways similar issue

    on my clients page https://www.brideinlace.com

    if you go to /wp-login

    it points to an unrelated site – how can we get back in and redirect us to brideinlace.com

    We have MySQL and FTP access but no WP access

    The host couldnt help (1and1)

    Any thoughts?
