• I’m trying to set up wordpress on my mac to locally test my themes. I set up MAMP, created my database, and downloaded and installed wordpress in the htdocs folder of MAMP. Everything was perfect— after installing wordpress, I could login to my dashboard and play around with the themes just as I wanted.

But after I closed everything out for the day and tried to resume the next day, when I tried to login to the localhost dashboard, it’s trying to make me install wordpress again. I’m not sure why it’s doing that since it was working perfectly yesterday. So I tried to download it again and of course it gave me this huge error message saying it’s already installed and that I should just login. So I try to login and nothing happens. It just stays on that same page, even when I clicked on the ‘forgot password’ link nothing happened.

So I tried everything I could think of to fix it: clearing all the cookies, reinstalling wordpress and basically doing everything over again, but nothing works. I’m completely lost, so if anyone can be of any help I’d be grateful!

  • Hi, I have exactly the same issue. I am not technical which is why I have mac. I hope someone can shed some light onto us.

Anything I open such as MAMP, htdocs, admin etc comes up as text edit file with no way to login/password.

Thanks in advance to our saviours

Ok so pressing any old buttons now.

Remembered widget on dashboard and ‘opened’ which leads me to mamp admin type page with https://localhost:8888/MAMP/ in the local browser window.

    Stuck again now

    Ok,
Have done it but I will apologise for my rubbish explanation. I get a wee bit frustrated.

From my last post I got to mamp admin panel but still couldnt get to my test site.

I then picked from my history drop down list to my wordpress site from last night when I knew it was working fine and quel surprise i have it back.

I will keep page open or bookmarked or something until i then have to learn how to get it live on my host site.

    Bon Chance

I have the same problem but, sadly, without a bookmarked localhost page.

    thanks so much
