  • Hi connectronica,
I have exactly the same problem. Can you tell me how you reactivate your plugins without having access to wp-admin?
I have disabled the plugin prior to the update because I wanted to avoid this problem. But it happened. Now I want to activate the plugin from Cpanel but I do not know how.
    Thank you.

If you allow social connection on your WebSite, here’s how to regain access to wp-admin (post in French). https://bantoozone.com/ithemes-security-probleme-acces-wp-admin/

    Brice,

You have to temporarily rename the better-wp-security plugin folder to something else in your Plesk or Cpanel (e.g. better-wp-security1) to login.

Then, you have to delete the iTheme Security files from the dashboard and reinstall them, again, to have access to the prior plugin settings. This exercise has to be repeated every time you login.

Yea, something is wrong with WP 4.0 or this plug-in because it wont accept my password as valid and locked me out of my site. As soon as i renamed the ithemes security folder through FTP i was able to login to the site. This isn’t the first time it happened. Re-installing the plugin doesn’t help.

4.0 broke this plugin apparently. I can’t login even though my backend isn’t hidden.

I’ve tried a plethora of different things to get this working again, but nope, it’s just broken now.

I with that iThemes was a bit more involved in these forums when it comes to issues. I was tempted to purchase their plugin suite until this happened.

I found the problem in my particular site and hope it will help someone else. The new iThemes Security wasn’t working with a previous setting I had in my WordPress HTTPS plugin. Captcha was also affected by this. In WP HTTPS, you have to make sure that Force SSL Exclusively is unchecked. That’s it!

Some of you may also benefit from reseting iThemes Security , which may be the only solution needed for your site.

    Best of luck!

    Hai @connectronica,
SSL feature is only for sites having SSL certificates. If you are having SSL certificate and having worked successfully with wp 3.9.2 version, then some possible workaround is mentioned here for WP 4.0 version update issue for SSL. If site is not having SSL certificate, then that feature not be enabled first.

For other users not having issues with SSL feature, and still facing issues related to backend then something went wrong in the .htaccess rules generated by iThemes Security, or data base tables related to this plugin.
