• Could you please help me with some advice on how to solve this problem:

    1. When I enter my login and password at xxxx.com/wp-admin, I get an error “Error 429 Too many requests”.
    2. I get this error when I login on Explorer on all my home computers, but for some reason I don’t get it on Mozilla Firefox on ONE of my home computers.
    3. I tried to login on Explorer, Mozilla and Google Chrome on my work computer, and always got Error 429 response.

So I’m at a loss about what causes this error and how to get back the ability to login.

My site is hosted by GoDaddy. I called them yesterday and was told that because I’m able to get to admin panel through their website, it means there’s no fault of the hosting provider.

GoDaddy tech support told me to contact my internet provider; however, it doesn’t make any sense to me why would it be a fault of my home internet provider if my computer at work which uses a completely different provider shows the same error 429.

I tried to de-activate all the plugins and switched to the Theme 215, but it didn’t make any difference for the login error (I’m still able to access the admin panel at one of my home computers).

Do you have an idea what’s going on?

    Have you tried:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches. Also, any op cache or content network cache, as well as Cloudflare, clear those caches.
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder (if you have created such folder). The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
    – switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If you don’t have access to your admin area, use FTP , or your web-host’s cPanel or whatever file management application your host provides. Navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder by adding “-old” to the end of the folder name. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

    Thanks, Tara.

I did everything you’ve suggested unfortunately the problem persists. I don’t think there’s a conflict between plugins and a theme because there wasn’t any updates recently, and I never had a problem logging in before.

    Any other ideas?

    Anything else I should try?

If the above did not help, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.

This manually updating sounds quite complicated but I’m planning to do it.

For now, I have a mystery on my hands:

why can I ONLY login to the admin panel on my laptop
but attempts to login on other computers are futile and consistently end in Error 429? Any ideas?
