Can't Login, (header issue), but also no longer working with original designer..

  • Ok, so I’m actually entirely new to web code, and therefore all this www.remarpro.com stuff is a little dense for me, but I am actually very interested in learning about programming in general etc… Just giving a preface, I know nothing at this second but I would love to learn it all ha ha…

    Here’s the problem…

    The website in question is theauroraimages.com, it is a website for my best friend’s feature length independent film that is nearing full post production completion so this website needs to be entirely revamped. For a few months now we have been unable to login to this website because of the following errors:

    I have done alot of digging on this site to see that this “header error” issue is not uncommon and probably fixable, BUT, the real problem we also have is this: Our website was developed by someone else and to our knowledge has complete control over trying to fix this for us because we don’t actually have any sort of access to anything involving this site… Without getting into too much detail there is a disconnect with the original designer and we would really like to take over this venture ourselves, no matter how difficult it might seem.

    See, we are GUESSING there is some sort of www.remarpro.com account/system/buzzword in webcode/etc that we can’t get to, for example, we are under the impression that we have no capability of changing the admin name (which is admin of course ha ha) or password, meaning we can’t even do basic things ourselves.

    Also, I am more of a graphical/visual person personally, and I have proposed to my friend that if there was a way to just to start fresh that would be cheaper/more efficient than trying to bring an old site back from the dead, ANY help or suggestions would be appreciated, even if starting entirely new is better.

    According to my friend Jared Outten, the director of Samuel’s Game and creator of Aurora Images LLc, he is currently paying for domain names at godaddy.com, but he isn’t even sure who does his web hosting (something that hasn’t been told to us yet), and we also must have some connection to Cloudflare, since sometimes when we login we get a simple window saying our internet is up, cloudflare is working, and the host isn’t working, telling us the “502 bad gateway error”

  • Hi Mike, would you believe I am having a Login Error too.My Hosting service will not Help,they say it is a third party problem.
    My Site is working fine,but cannot Login to my WordPress Admin.

    It started when I changed to a Theme that I had used some time before and had no trouble with,the only change I had made was the Background color which I did not like so tried to change it back that was when the problem started,I could not return to my Admin which I was still logged into,so I closed my Browser and then tried to go back in again thinking it would clear itself,anyway now I am outside without a key as it were.Here are what details I have.

    Then when I try to Login all I get is..

    I am not in anyway a computer person as I left school in 1959, but I believe it has happened because of the color change and then not being able to log out of my Admin.
    So my WordPress thinks I am still in there.
    Like being outside your front door with no clothes on.
    Anyway I would be very grateful for any help.

    so the official answer for this is no, we do not currently have any sort accessibility to the site files on Dreamhost, it looks as though our original developer is the only way in and out of managing any sort of site files.

    If the lack of access to the Dreamhost site files is truly a dead-end on trying to resurrect the current site, perhaps mending the relationship with the original developer could work. If there is a way to do private messages I would feel slightly more comfortable with what I need to explain, but if that goes against the spirit of www.remarpro.com that’s ok too… I’ll just say there is an upfront price tag for only fixing this login/pw issue that we feel is too much, and also makes us question how easy future errors would be fixed as well.

    With that said, what is the best course of action for making a functioning beautiful website for a daring independent feature film? This isn’t about trying to make something out of thin air magically, The site owner Jared O. pays for web hosting and domain name space yearly. And actually learning how to do it is appealing anyways! If it requires alot of learning and work, I am more than willing to go for it.

    In conclusion, we are ready to go whatever the best direction is, and any help you can give me after knowing we can’t get into the Dreamhost site files is greatly appreciated! And again, if you tell me that paying for “only” that assistance IS fair, we will reconsider our business relationship, we just felt the pricetag was high for something that non-web devs FEEL as though is “simple..”

    Oh sigh – these kinds of situations are always unfortunate and yeah, we only offer support here. Sounds like you’re pretty much between a rock and a hard place – without access to the site files (via DreamHost) there’s no way to fix the problem or move the site. So your choices seem to be to work with the developer long enough to get access to the site and get it moved to your own hosting or to start from scratch – though you might be able to copy some stuff off the current site (whatever’s visible) or Google’s old caches possibly.

    If you opt to basically start over, there’s definitely a learning curve with WP, but lots of people start out at square one and do just fine. Sounds like you’re motivated and interested in doing that anyway. There’s lots of good info here and on the web in many places – this is a good starting place:

    We will probably still try to mend relationship tomorrow, but I think some advice may help. Lets say that there is a triple digit upfront cost of fixing this issue, to go along with the 100 a month maintenance fee. If this sounds like too much, then we will probably just move on…

    I know making business deals is not promoted on these forums, so I’m sure talking money in general falls under that category, but it actually would be a huge help just to know if that’s a good or bad number given the context of our problem.

    On the subject of working from scratch, for an ABSOLUTE web beginner, is there anything else I should look up regarding web development in addition to the beginner WP link you provided? As in, for an absolute web beginner, what other basics (if any) should I be learning in order to find my own way in making a website with WP?

    I will probably mark this topic as resolved once I get a response to these questions, only because the conversation at hand will have become something entirely new at that point. Thanks again to all help!!

    Today when i upload my code to server, i found out that there’s a ton of bug “header modified” but quickly i found out that my internet connection error and FTP software upload “missing” something, so i write it here for all if has the same problem !
