Been working on this issue for a week. I can only login to my account from my home Macbook Pro computer. Any other computer (work -windows, ipad, iphone, ect) I cannot log in. It says my password is incorrect, which I know is not possible nor the issue. Something else I have noticed is that I do not receive any emails from the email associated with my account.

Do you actually complete the login dialog (enter your username and password) each time you enter the site from your Macbook, or do you have the “Remember Me” box checked, and are already logged in when you open the site?

My home macbook has the remember me box check with current password.

Also, all the other computers I would login from were “remember me” as well. Those have all since been reset while trying all the various resets I have troubleshooted.

My guess is, that whatever the cause of the issue, after the default cookie time of 14 days expires, you won’t be able to log in with your Macbook any more either. Can you think of any event that may have taken place approximately 7 days ago that could have caused an issue? That might include any upgrades/updates made to themes, plugins, or WordPress itself. In particular, have you installed and activated any new plugins?

Just so I know some of what you have tried: Does that include completely clearing the browser cache including cookies and trying to log back in (obviously not on the Mac)? And have you been able to deactivate all of your plugins to see if the symptom changes?

..and can you share the domain name with us if possible.

[edit] Also, can any other members of your site still log in with their username and password at /wp-admin?

There were no changes at all. This just happened all of the sudden. After the first round of failed login attempts, I requested new password multiple times. I did not receive any emails with a new password.

I also noticed that when I would request a password via my email, wordpress would not recognize the email address. I was able to verify all the information when I would login from the Mac.

I have tried the clearing of cookies and caches several times. This morning I tried deactivating the plugins by renaming the folder in the ftp. Nothing changed.

    the domain name is https://www.churchofchrist-bridgeport.com/

    1) can you log on as a different user account, or can any other users still log in?

    2) is there any type of failed login attempt message”

Typical would be: “ERROR: The password you entered for the username admin is incorrect” – or – “ERROR: Invalid username”

Is it one of those two, or something different?

    3) are you using any other security related plugins?

I am now home on the Mac. I was able to login in under “remember me” settings. After being logged in, I created a new user as administrator with a new password. I was able to log that account in . After that, I tried logging in as my other account by typing the password in. That attempt failed.

The only message I get is that it is the wrong password.

I am not using any security related plugins.

My hunch is that when I send in for a pass reset, wordpress is resetting the pass, but I am not receiving the email.

I am consistently able to login and log off using the new user. I deleted the other user and contributed all of the data to the new user I created. However, when trying to login on my iphone or my wife’s Mac, I could not login with the new user I created. Screen shakes and says password or username is bad.

You may need to do a manual password reset on the primary account to get things sorted out. Resetting Your Password
There are several methods to manually reset it, but you should read through them all before choosing which one will work best for you. The phpMyAdmin method always works pretty well for me.

[edit] I posted the above before you last replied.

If cookies and cache have been cleared on those other devices, I’m stumped at this point (other than character and case sensitivity issues). Do you have any type of additional access rules described in your .htaccess file for security purposes?

I wouldnt know how to make and changed to access rules.

I also tried to login with new user on my same Mac using Safari, and was NOT able to login.

I also tried to login with new user on my same Mac using Safari,

So bottom line, it seems you’re only able to access your back end using 1 specific machine, and with one specific browser. I’m not sure what to think at this point.

It looks like your host is 1and1. It might be worth contacting 1and1 support to see if they might be able to offer up any ideas. I’m sorry I wasn’t much help on this one. It’s puzzling, to be sure.
