    Hi,

Ok so its important that I explain that I know almost nothing about computers when it comes to coding/databases. I built a website with a friend of mine 3 years ago and we both didnt know what we were doing. We crashed the site about 4 times in the process and We googled ALOT. We ended up copying and pasting a lot of codes until finally we had a working website which we were somewhat happy with. Its been three years since we touched the codes so I have forgotten almost everything.

I have been running my website https://www.speakersblown.com via wordpress and today on my dashboard i was told I needed 8 updates. I clicked the update button and didnt think anything else of it. When I went to log back on, it took me to my websites error page. Both the admin and regular login pages redirect me to the error page.

Ive been googling and Ive seen that people who seemed to have a similar problem to me, managed to fix it by altering codes in something called the wp-config.

I hate to sound like a loser but I have no clue how or where to find this and im too scared to alter anything because I dont want my site to crash.

If anyone can help me with a literal step by step on what to do, Id be forever grateful! My knowledge extends to my Cpanel login and password, and then I have no clue where to go from there. ?? Please assume I am like a three year old when it comes to this stuff!

    Thankyou

ps…i cant remember the version of wordpress im using right now. The basic theme is Arras but we made ALOT of modifications to it when we created the site.

  • Probably the best first step is to manually deactivate your plugins and theme – which you can do by using Cpanel to change the name on the plugins folder and on the theme folder:

    wordpress
        wp-content
            pluginsHOLD
            themes
               arrasHOLD

Be sure that your themes folder contains a default theme – twentytwelve or twentyeleven.

Thankyou so much for your help, event hough ^^ that all makes no sense to me at all :/ But my login page started working again by itself which is really lucky! I guess one of the updates just took a while to sort itself out.

    Thanks!
