  • Assuming that WordPress usually works, you might want to bring that to the attention of your host.

I can’t believe this: I’m trying to install wordpress on a Mac, using MAMP so that I can test it before installing on my site. Whenever I open the file:///Applications/MAMP/htdocs/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php
file, I get absolute GARBAGE — random text, strange formatting, and the hypothetically randomly generated password is always the same: %2$s.

I have done — I’m not kidding — 10 clean reinstalls of both MAMP and WordPress. Aside from Friday, when I was able to get it working for about 3 hours and change the templates, I’ve never even been able to open WordPress. I switched from Userland because I thought this would be easier, but I’m getting very nostalgic for Userland!!!

It’ll work better after you try browsing to it with https:// so that the PHP file can be processed.
