• While I was writing a post yesterday something went wrong. I noticed when I wanted to save the post. Whatever I did after that, a long error message popped up.

Now I can’t log in or even get the login page to show, and since I can’t access anything I can’t really fix or check what’s wrong either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    This is the message:

  • Try disabling the wordpress-importer plugin by renaming it in the wp-content/plugins directory. You can then consider updating all installed plugins and themes, and you could also check your PHP version in the process – should be visible within your hosting account’s control panel.

Is there any way of doing any of this when I can’t access my admin panel? I can’t access anything at all except my published website.

This depends on your web hosting provider. In addition to your WordPress Dashboard, your provider should have given you access to some sort of a Control Panel interface, where you manage various other services, such as email, FTP, DNS and the like. If you have access to such interface, and/or you have access to the site via FTP, you can rename the wordpress-importer directory to something else, such as wordpress-importer-bak, for example. You should be able to log in the Dashboard at this point.

Did you recover your website just before?

No, I didn’t do anything special just before, no idea why this happened. I’m currently looking at my control panel (from my web host) trying to find the “wordpress-importer directory” (as described by korikori above).

I see that your login page is back up – did you find a fix, and what was it?

I contacted my website provider, and they told me I needed to downgrade my php because it wasn’t compatible with my plugins. So I downgraded my php to a very old version, then I could log in and update all my plugins and after that upgrade my php again.

This happened because I haven’t been using my website for a long time, thus I haven’t really remembered that I needed to do this regularly.

Thank you so much for the help on here. It’s much appreciated.

I was going to post about it here, but forgot. Thanks for the reminder.

Glad that you managed to resolve the issue.
