Can’t log in after upgrade, but can reset pass (that doesnt work)

  • I just did an upgrade and the blog is fine. Everything loads OK and I am able to reset my password even though none of them work.

    The login page loads fine but when I click to actually login, the page just resets and shows the same page again. I’ve reset the pass a few times and it sends them to me, but they don’t work.

    Any ideas?

    I’ve reinstalled the files, upgraded, downgraded, upgraded again and now I’m stuck. I thought if I went back to the old back up files that it would fix it, but it didn’t.

    that’s never the solution — doesn’t that sound like getting in a car and driving around in circles?

    You dont indicate what version you upgraded from, but I can tell you this much.

    If you upgraded from a version of WP that didnt have the secret key stuff in the wp-config.php, you need to add that BEFORE you do the upgrade.

    You should have also disabled ALL plugins.

    And you should have logged out of the blog before upgrading. (Its not necessary to be logged in to run the upgrade.php page)

    These are just observations that Ive made after hundreds of successful upgrades.

    Plugins were disabled. I was NOT logged out.

    Not sure about the key. Didn’t know about that.

    Clear out your existing browser cookies and cache. You should then be able to log in. A sure test would be if you can log in with a alternative browser that you don’t normally use.

    I am having the same issue on my blog https://littlelioness.net after upgrading from 2.6 to 2.6.3 (at least that’s what I THOUGHT Id downloaded from the .org site, though the readme has it as 2.6.1)

    I have reset my password, cleared cache etc etc.

    Yes, I forgot to disable my plugins (but that’s a bit late now, hey?)

    Any ideas? Delete and reinstall?

    Did you disable plugins? If not backup your wp-contents/plugins folder, then rename it to wp-content/plugins_old, then create a emplty folder called plugins. Then try the upgrade.
