• When I try to log in to WordPress on the server I get an error message.
The message says “server error in application “WINWEBHOST VS448636 2JHB””
HTTP Error 404.0 – not found
The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
I have spoken (at length!) to Web Central who is supposed to be host my site, but they now say it is WordPress that is the problem.
    Can you help me?

    PS I am a novice!
    thanks
    Jane

  • Cooee.
Good try by your web hosting company, but it is their problem.

    Try and load:
    https://www.2jhb.com/readme.html

Any web server will be able to do this if it is configured correctly. This is something they are able to help you with.

If they cannot resolve the problem then it is time to find another hosting company.

It’s possible that WordPress was installed in a different directory (I guessed https://www.2jhb.com/wordpress and https://www.2jhb.com/wp but no luck).

To be honest, if you’re hosting company can’t help you with this, you need to find another one, there are a lot of decent web hosting companies there that have facilities to let you install wordpress in just few clicks.

Sorry MarkSenff, if it had been installed in a sub directory, there would be a 404 error and not this server config error.
This is just your typical example of a lame hosting company.

I ran into a problem like this a few months ago on a different hosting company. I was logged into the wrong Cpanel after they changed out some servers. They had to give me a new Cpanel login. Maybe you are logging into a different server than the one where your domain is actually resolving to.

@rossmitchell It is a 404 error…the default IIS one (look beyond the “SERVER ERROR” title).

I don’t think it’s fair to call them lame just because they use a webserver that’s not as common as Apache. ??

    Sorry Mark, my mistake.
Their support should be able to get the readme.html loading.
