When trying to install a new theme (weaver 2.2.6) it prompts me to enter:
    Hostname
    ftp user/pass

After entering, it proceeds to install but fails stating:
    “Destination folder already exists. /public_html/wp-content/themes/weaver/”

So I goto themes and there is a section for ‘broken themes’.

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
Weaver Child The parent theme is missing. Please install the “weaver” parent theme.

HELP! I just want these damn theme installed!

…and when installing any other theme or updates, it says:

‘An error occurred while updating Akismet: Could not create directory. /public_html.’

    Help!

Did you try removing the weaver folder completely and starting up again from the beginning ?

I have. Every time i try and install it, it responds :
“An error occurred while updating Akismet: Could not create directory. /public_html.’

when it asks for the ‘Hostname” does this just mean my domain url?

    Thanks man.

No – it wants your FTP hostname.

No – just domain.com. You also need to provide your FTP username and password.

Thanks. I entered that originally. any idea what this message means?:
“An error occurred while updating Akismet: Could not create directory. /public_html.’

umm i had the same problem ??

i think some thing is wrong with your ftp address

like the host who provides you hosting will have some ftp names .

or download it from wp then install it via upload new rather than downloading it direct from the admins panel .

    Ah okay. Thanks man.
Damn- Nothing can ever go smoothly the first time…

@esmi Thanks for the link but I have no idea what everyone is talkin about. This is my first website.
@aash – I tried to upload a different theme – exact same message.

    Fml…

For what it is worth, unless you have a VPS or other dedicated server, getting the message for FTP credentials means you host is running out of date and dangerous versions of a web server.

While WordPress supports FTP file access to the site, it is an indication of other issues.

I would recommend switching to a host that keeps its customers using up to date software that uses safe shared server file systems.
