• Hi,

I’ve tried everything to install a new theme on WordPress 2.8 I believe it is. Everytime I go to the WP-Admin and try uploading a new theme, it just tries to load forever, then eventually gives me a Failure Notice and an option to retry.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks!
    Bryce

Yeah if I find the answer I will post a response.

I’ve asked on three message boards and still waiting a response. Please do post your findings if you find a resolution ??

    Hi Tracie,

I don’t know if you resolved your problem or not, but I managed to find a resolution to mine.

Instead of uploading the template through “WP-ADMIN”, I went and uploaded the zipped template using FTP Commander, to “WP-CONTENT” > “THEMES”, and once it was uploaded I extracted the contents.

Went to WP-ADMIN and the template was available to activate. I can now customize the template – but had to change a few CHMODS but you will get red text telling you which folders to change CHMODS for.

Hopefully this method works for you as well.

Then that’s your problem: in order to do anything via the webinterface the user apache runs on has to have write access to the entire /wp-content/ directory (and sub directories).

Tracie, do as wisekal says. The theme you try to upload might be packed wrong. If so, WP can’t find the files inside the zip, if they for example are in a separate folder inside the zip. This is case with some plugins as well.
So download, unzip, check in which directory the files are, and upload this folder.
