When I try to install on my WordPress site, which is hosted on a university server, I get this error message:

Installation failed: 504 Gateway Time-out The server didn’t respond in time.

Is there a way to do a manual install on my server?

I did deactivate all other plugins before trying to install

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi,

A 504 Gateway error means that your web hosting company deploys a proxy in front of your web server, and that this proxy is having a problem. The only real way to investigate it is to forward the information to the web hosting company, and to ask them what the cause of the error is.

We do offer support packages, please see here for more information: https://updraftplus.com/shop/get-support/
However, we would not be able to fix the 504 error, this is something only your hosting can do,

    Kind Regards,

Installing a WordPress plugin is just unzipping a zip file into the wp-content/plugins directory.

i.e. You can instead do this:

    1) Download the zip file from the page for the plugin on www.remarpro.com

    2) Unzip it on your computer.

    3) Use FTP to upload the resulting folder into wp-content/plugins on your WP site.

    4) Visit the ‘Plugins’ dashboard page, and activate it.

Having said that, if the server has trouble doing that, it does indicate a deeper problem, so having worked around one problem you may find others – it is best if the server admins can find out what the root problem is.
