• Hi all.

I am having huge problems with a clean install of WordPress, our old site stopped working (I think after a WordPress update?) and it just returned an HTTP 500 error, so we decided on a clean install.

I am using WordPress V: 4.5, as when I try to install the latest version I get an HTTP 500 error because the following files disappear from the server:

    wp-includes/widgets/class-wp-widget-media.php
    wp-includes/widgets/class-wp-widget-media-audio.php
    wp-includes/widgets/class-wp-widget-media-image.php
    wp-includes/widgets/class-wp-widget-media-video.php

Also all loose PHP files from the following folders vanish as well:
    wp-content/themes/twentyseventeen
    &
    wp-content/themes/twentysixteen

I have tried re-uploading them via FTP, but when I try to run the WordPress install they vanish again?

So I gave up on the newest version, but I have managed to get WordPress 4.5 installed though, but I cannot upload any images via “insert media” as I always get the following error:

“The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads.”

I can however link to images which I have uploaded manually via FTP?

I also cannot install any plugins. When I try to install a plugin, it installs fine initially, I can even save the plugin settings and see the plugin working, then I go away and do something else for 5 minutes, and when I come back it has stopped working, the plugin no longer shows on the plugin page and the following error appears at the top of the page:

“The plugin coming-soon/coming-soon.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.”

This has happened with half a dozen plugins I’ve tried. My host has tried changing the permissions of the various folders to “775” but it makes no difference.

I’ve been going round in circles with this for ages and I am really hoping one of the experts who frequents this site may be able to offer some advice as to what is happening, my host is also at a loss. Many thanks.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I think you need to have a word with your hosts about these issues. Files don’t just “disappear” by themselves.

Oh I have done! I’ve been back and forth with my host numerous times. He says he hasn’t changed any settings since we had a working WordPress site. When I ask what the error logs say for the failed install, he says it is because of the missing files, which I personally uploaded and checked.
He is as lost as I am, but the files definitely seem to be removing themselves from the server during the install?
Any clue on the plugins/image uploads not working?
    Thanks

Can anyone advise why my plugins work fine for a few minutes then suddenly stop working and return the error:
“The plugin [plugin name] has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist”
Solving that would be a huge help, I can get around the other issues, I just wanted to include as much info as possible!
    Many thanks

    The message:

“The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads.”

is definitely a server issue. Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Thanks for the response. The permissions on that folder are already on 775, but unfortunately the issue persists.
