• After the manual update from 3.6.1 to 4.0.1, I can’t install themes or plugins from the dashboard. Add new button, when clicked, displays “Page not found”. In the themes directory, clicking on Featured, Popular categories produces the 404 page.

If the plugins are FTP’d into wp-content/plugins folder, the wp-admin/wp-login.php shows ‘redirect loop error’.

During the manual update, I’d deleted the plugins and themes folders from wp-content and re-uploaded them. Was that a mistake?

Been three days and nights stuck at this! Any help would be appreciated!

can’t install themes or plugins from the dashboard.

Try installing manually via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application provided by your hosting provider (cPanel…).

Yes, I’ve done that multiple times but then the ‘redirect loop error’ appears which doesn’t let me inside the dashboard.

try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).

    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen Theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Flushed all the cache and browser plugins. Deactivated and deleted all the plugins.

Yes, some white space in the functions.php of the twenty thirteen was causing the ‘redirect loop error’.
But, now as I’ve already deleted and reuploaded the themes(multiple times), it looks like it’s not a theme issue.

Twenty Fifteen is fully functional now.

But still, can’t upload plugins or themes.
