• Okay, so I’ve seen this issue posted before but a lot of the posts are old and all the suggestions were of no help to me.

The issue I am facing is when I’m in my admin panel for my wordpress website, and when I get a notification to either update wordpress or a plugin, it never works if I try to do it by just clicking the ‘update’ buttons. Nor can I install themes or plugins through the panel either. I’m also unable to upload pictures as well.

I have to do everything manual. From installing themes, plugins, and any updates.

People say it has to do with file permissions, but I’ve tried things like changing wp-content to 777 permissions, but it still unable to do anything.

Note: I am using a VPS, and it was rather bare-bones when I bought it. No CPanel, not even Apache was installed (so I set that all up myself).
Maybe that will be of some help, because I’ve noticed when I use hosts that are user friendly with one-click installs, I never have this issue that I am facing.

Hopefully someone can help me find a solution to this issue, as I’m sure others run into this issue if they setup wordpress on a bare-bones VPS as well. All suggestions are welcome, as I’ve run out of ideas. Thanks! ??

    This is a server/permission issue.

So, ask your hosting provider why your server does not like auto updating.

    Meanwhile, consider manually updating:

    WordPress:

Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.

    Plugins:

Well the issue is I contacted them and they said two things:
    1) It was an issue with wordpress
    2) They don’t offer support for 3rd party software, only for hardware / connectivity / server type issues. They even suggested I came and asked on here. ??

Unless you can tell me exactly what the issue might be so I can ask them about it, they won’t help me any further.

Also, I already know how to do everything manually, but it is just a pain to always have to do it that way. Those will be helpful for anyone who may be having the same issue as me though.

As of now, still looking for a solution.

May want to look for a better hosting provider

I would if I could find something as cheap as $15 / year for a VPS with good specs. ??

But, it is just a matter of finding out what needs to be done instead of having my host figure out what it is (if that makes sense).
