• My WP site at https://frugalfancy.com (installed in the main directory) had been working fine, then I tried to upgrade and have had nothing but problems since. Yesterday, I couldn’t upload the theme I had been using for months. Had a girl fix that for me and it’s okay now. But today I can’t reinstall plugins I’ve also been using for months. And the upgrade didn’t appear to work either. It says I’m still running on 3.1 (though I *thought* I had upgraded to 3.2 or something awhile back).

    As to the plugins, the auto install fails and gives various reasons or times out, or even says the plugin is installed but then I can’t see it via the Dashboard. I can upload plugins using FTP and can see them in the directory, but the Dashboard doesn’t show them. I’ve cleared my cache, all my browsing history, have deleted and reinstalled, reuploaded, followed several bits of advice re PHP on the forums. Nothing. Can someone PLEASE help? I’m ready to pull my hair out. :o}

    Thanks!

    Dee

Is there ANYONE who can help with this? Please?

    Need some more information:

“the auto install fails and gives various reasons”
What are the reasons? Please copy the text here.

What happens when you try to upgrade?>
What errors / messages do you see?

    “the Dashboard doesn’t show them”
    You mean the plugins tab?

Also – talk to your webhost thedesignshoppe.com
They must have useful information for you – you buy space with their server which they control.

Thank you, Mark, for your reply!

Re: “the auto install fails and gives various reasons” one time it says the plugin is already installed, but I can’t see it in the Plugin directory via FTP. Another time it locks up on “Installing Plugin.” Another time it says “Plugin installation failed.”

What happens when you try to upgrade?> I don’t know that it’s not upgrading or just not removing the message that I need to upgrade. I tried auto upgrade and it said it failed. So I tried it manually, followed all the steps, etc. And it seemed to go okay but the message is still there and it says I’m running 3.1.

“the Dashboard doesn’t show them” You mean the plugins tab? No, the plugins themselves. I can see Akismet and Hello Dolly on the Plugins tab. When I try to install a plugin automatically, I get errors as noted above. When I install manually, even though I can see the folder and it all looks okay via FTP, the Dashboard still only shows Akismet and Hello Dolly. And then, even when I deleted the plugins manually via FTP, it now says the plugin can’t install because it’s already there (did this for sem-dofollow, for one).

I submitted a ticket with the host. I’ve used them for several years so hopefully, they can tell me something. Thanks!

This sounds very odd and might have different reasons.

If you’d like me to take a look (so I’d need logins) email [email protected] and we can take it from there.
