Hello, a site that I’m managing was recently hacked. The hosting provider as well as a web security company cleaned it and got it restored.

After it was restored I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress (4.3) and now I can’t insert images into existing pages or posts.

I can upload images to the media library. I can also insert images into new pages I’ve created. I just can’t insert them into the pages or posts that already exist. This is a problem because I update an existing page regularly with text and images.

Is there any fix for this? Thanks in advance.

    Any error message?

No error message. It’s just that the “Insert Image” button will not light up so I can click it. I’ll select an image I want to insert, but that “Insert Image” button never becomes clickable.

    Have you tried:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches. Also, any op cache or content network cache, as well as Cloudflare, clear those caches.
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.

If the above does not help, your browser may help you identify JavaScript issues or conflicts. Do you have any Javascript errors in the console when looking at the editor page? – This article can assist you in doing that diagnosis.

I had this same problem after upgrading to WP 4.4.1. I did all of the basics such as deactivating all plugins and reactivating them without any success. The only thing I did not do was to reinstall the 4.4.1 update.

I could insert images into the media library but could not insert a image into a post using the add media button. A work-around is to select the image in add media that you want to insert into your post. In the Attachment Details that pops up on the right, copy the address in the url box. Next click the insert from url hyperlink on the left and paste it into the url address box then click the insert into post button at the bottom of the page. This is a little extra work but it will insert the image into your post.

Thanks for posting this work-around apoluo. I forgot to update this. I ended up deactivating all plugins and reactivating them one-by-one. I found that it was a gallery plugin that I was using. So I deactivated that and all was fine.
