I’m having some issues that started yesterday. I can’t insert galleries into my posts. Not sure if it’s Nextgen or my site itself. A new update for NextGen just came out, Version 2.1.56, but updating to that didn’t fix the issue.

When I try to insert a gallery I’m getting this:

If I click the edit icon I get this:

It does let me create the gallery itself and upload the images, I just can’t seem to add a gallery to any of my posts. Yes, I am picking a gallery to display, and it does have images, but the actual inserted object is blank/empty. My OLD posts all work fine, though.

I’m not a web developer or anything I just learned enough to put a site together to share some gaming images I photoshop. I’ve been using my site for over a year with no issues. https://steam.cryotank.net/

  • I have a similar problem. Earlier gallery inserted as a thumbnail, now it is inserted as long shortcode and in the frontend not displayed at all.

    A problem with ТПП - 1

    Here the result into frontend:

Weird. Wish I knew how to insert it manually to try it that way. Though if I switch to text all it shows is []

I have the same issue. ??

@matthewblev – Have you tried deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

It’s not other plugins, it’s your plugin. I’m having the same issue exactly. There was a nextgen update day before yesterday and afterward, it stopped working. I can create the galleries, add images, but when it comes to adding the gallery to a post, I get the blank image and nothing shows up.

Please take accountability and revisit your code. It’s not working. Please do it soon.

I’ll do the troubleshooting this weekend and get back to you, Cais. Thank you!

    Hi Casi,

Perform deleting cache, disable all plugins installed.
But the error is the same unfortunately.

    regards
    Ruben

I installed the plugin this weekend for the first time and am having the exact same issue as Matthew has described and shown with the original post. I have spent all morning trying to see if this was due to a server permission error or a Firewall blocking me. So far…nothing that I have found is abnormal.

The only way that I have found around it is if I manually add the shortcode to the gallery in the text mode as shown here: [nggallery id=2]

Adding the gallery via the visual mode strips the shortcode out to this [].

Hope this helps in determining the root cause of the issue.

    Thanks…Scott

I have exactly the same issue. Hopefully the guys from Nextgen are able to fix that bug as soon as possible!

I tried clearing my browser cache, and I tried deactivating all my plugins except NextGen and Updraftplus. Still the same issue.

I’m getting by, though, because if the post editor is in “text” mode it works and inserts the code eg:

    [ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”598″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails” override_thumbnail_settings=”1″ thumbnail_width=”230″ thumbnail_height=”108″ thumbnail_crop=”1″ images_per_page=”10″ number_of_columns=”2″ ajax_pagination=”0″ show_all_in_lightbox=”0″ use_imagebrowser_effect=”0″ show_slideshow_link=”0″ slideshow_link_text=”[Show slideshow]” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

If I have the editor in “visual” mode, though, it’s a blank object that is inserted and if I switch to text all that’s listed is “[]”

I’d like to get you my server info but I’m not sure how. I tried some method I saw online but it didn’t seem to work.

@delanam – this is a new error to us, and we asked that all kindly check for a potential conflict that may be triggering this. We’re always willing to take accountability. Since more users are adding their experience it does more clearly seem to be an issue we need to address in our plugin.

@matthewblev – Thank you so much for checking for a possible conflict and letting us know it works in Text view, but not in Visual. What is odd about this error is that not all users are seeing this, so there is something isolated about your server, @delanam, @rubenfm, @wdws and @eagleeye1000 servers that is producing this odd issue. ??

I’d like to kindly ask that each of you submit a bug report. We’ll need some more detailed info about your server to help us fix this and get a solution out the door asap for you all and any others who are experiencing this same bug. We’re really sorry about this inconvenience and hope to fix it for you as quickly as we can. Your help is needed, so please send us a message here with a link to this forum thread for reference: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug

Ummm I never got back to doing the bug report. However, I was editing an old post and noticed that the preview was working. The text/code that was used in the old posts, though, was totally different.

As opposed to what I shared above. I’m assuming the shift in formats is what “broke” the galleries in the visual preview, then?

*edit* crap it’s actually inserting the image not the code >.<

@matthewblev – The “red triangle” display is often related to a conflict with something removing the source gallery selection, if you click on the triangle it should re-open the Insert Gallery Window (IGW) / Add Gallery button interface. Look at the source accordion panel to see if there is anything reference in it.

    Thanks!

Well it seems to be working with the update I installed today. There is no actual thumbnail, but the gallery is added. Thank you!
