Iupdated Jetpack on https://alllivesaresacred.com, and I regret enabling the WordPress toolbar! I never liked it and it blocks access to my theme and other plugins. When I try to disable it, I get error messages saying it could not be deactivated. I can save most other settings but I CANNOT get rid of Markdown or the WordPress.com toolbar. And I do not want these features!

  • Same problem, do you have a “Json” problem ? Something like “SyntaxError: Unexpected token < in JSON at position 0” ?

If you receive an error when trying to activate or deactivate features, it’s most likely because something on your site blocks access to REST API queries. To find out more, could you tell me more about the different plugins you use on your site?

Could you also try the following:

    1. Open the dashboard page.
    2. Open your browser console
    3. Click on the Network tab
    4. Refresh the page.
    5. If you see any lines in red inside the browser console, click on them. A new panel should appear on the right.
    6. Click on the “Response” tab in that new panel.
    7. Try to activate or deactivate an option.
    8. Copy the message displayed there.
    9. Paste it here.
    10. If no red lines appeared in the browser console, click on the “Console” tab of the browser console.
    11. Copy any errors displayed there, and paste them here.

Until we solve this issue, you can go to the following page to activate or deactivate features:

Now I have lost access to my website. All I can access is the WordPress.com dashboard!

Now the website doesn’t work. Period. THis happened since I updated Jetpack. Sigh. I can’t access it now.

Sorry for all the trouble! We’ve just released 4.8.1 to solve the fatal issue that stopped you from accessing your site.

You can read more about this release here:
    https://wp.me/p1moTy-4N5

Please update to 4.8.1 as soon as possible to see if that fixes that issue for you. Also, if you’re using WP Rocket, please update that to the latest version as well.

If you continue to experience issues, could you please try to delete the Jetpack plugin, and reinstall it from scratch? If that doesn’t help either, could you give me as much information as possible about the errors you see on your site?

Thank you, and again, sorry for the trouble! While we do our best to test things prior to release, sometimes things fall through the cracks. We’ve added additional measures to make sure this type of error doesn’t happen again.
