cant get plugin (any) to get past "downloading" or "unpacking" …help!

    I’m new to WP and trying to get started.
    I’m attempting to install plugins but not getting past the “downloading” message when I use the “install” process.
    I’ve tried downloading to my computer and then using the “upload” option. This gets me to “unpacking”, but again no further.
    I’m certain the solution is fairly straight forward, but I have no idea where to find info to resolve and move forward.
    Any suggestions. Thanks.
