Can’t get home page re-direction option to work in WPTouch

I’m using a CMS theme with a static home page and I can’t get WPTouch to redirect the homepage (I’ve created a more iPhone friendly one). The main home page is composed mostly of widgets, and when viewed on the iPhone (with WPTouch active) all I see are the recent posts – which are on the sidebar of the main homepage.

WPTouch works fine with all the other pages. It’s just this redirection that’s the problem.

Also, I can’t switch off the category and tags menus – even though I’ve unchecked the “Show Categories” and “Show Tags” options on the plugin’s options page.

If someone could at least give me some insight into the mechanism for redirection in WPTouch that might help. There’s obviously some element missing from my homepage template that WPTouch requires. If I make another static page the homepage, redirection works.
