Can't get black text on 2012 theme

I’ve been trying to change the css to make my text black but all I seem to get is a kind of dark grey. I can change the text to red, blue etc but it doesn’t look as bright and vivid compared with a standard html page. I must be missing something but can’t see what. I’m using Firefox.

Any ideas anyone?
