    Hi.

I’m moving my WordPress site to a new host, but with same domain. To get all the images working, I moved the entire uploads folder to the new host. However, just some of the pictures are working. They all show up in the media library, but some of them are broken.

So I tried to go back and check if I could find the images that are broken on the FTP server of the old host. The strange thing is, I can’t. Even though the images is working on the old server.

For instance, the picture “https://www.fotballsonen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Kommentar-av-Aleksander-Losneg%C3%A5rd4.jpg” should be in the folder /wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ of the old host – but it isn’t. When I sort by alphabet, it seems like the pictures just ends at F, and all the other pictures are not showing. How is this possible?

  • Things can and often do go wrong in ftp. Does your ftp program show image files on the old server?

No, thats the strange thing. The old server only has images from 00-F, the rest is missing. So when I copy the entre folder to the new server, those other images wont work, obviously. So strange, since the pictures work om the old server, bur dont show in the FTP.

Can you try togglng the FTP between active and passive mode under preferences? Sometimes that helps to clear up FTP issues. The file has to be there.

Else, can you navigate to the file name by copy/pasting the URL in the browser? If not, then you have a bad link.

Then they are at the address that will show up if you right click on them and look at properties.

You should also see them by using the control panel at your host and what ever they provided for a file manager.

Tried toggling from active to passive, still nothing, imaginocracy.

Yes, I can navigate to the file by pasting the URL in the browser, so the files has to be there. Its not just one picture missing. Could it have anything to do with that the folder actually has 9998 images? Still strange though, since the URL points to this folder, but just some of the pictures are visible in FTP…

    Not really.

Does your ftp program use https://ftp as above?
    I connect with ftp://ftp.ourexcellentadventures.com/

No, I connect with https://ftp.domainname.com via FileZilla for Mac. Tired also with SmartFTP, but the pictures still won’t show.

Is there any tool that will let you search through the whole server? Maybe I could try searching for one of the missing images and see if it show up at all…

    Problem solved.

I noticed a line in the FTP software saying “Output truncated to 10000 matches”. This is a FTP server setting and this limit is set by the FTP server. I simply copied the first 10k images, deleted all of them, and then updated the folder. Then the next 10k images showed. And I just have to do like that till all the pictures are copied off the server.

    Well that’s great news!
