• We’re new to podcasting and just had our feed accepted by iTunes. We want to try using the PowerPress Subscribe Page, but cannot discover where to access it. The instructions on the Blubrry web site state “To create your page, go to PowerPress settings and select the ‘Appearance’ tab.”

We do not have an Appearance tab under the general PowerPress Settings, nor have I been able to find such a tab anywhere else.

We’re using a Custom Podcast Channel; this was the only way we could get our Theme and Feed to work together properly. I can’t find an Appearance tab under the Podcast Channels settings, either. Can you please direct me to the right place?

    Thank you!

1.) Log into your WordPress site and hover over the PowerPress link in the left-hand sidebar. Click the Podcast Channels link in the popup menu.
2.) Click the Edit link under the name of your podcast channel.
3.) Click the Website tab. There, you’ll find the settings for the Subscribe Page.

Thank you very much for the prompt response, Shawn. I appreciate it. However, I looked at the Website tab before opening this thread and I don’t see the info. What I do see are shortcodes of various kinds I can embed within an existing page. These shortcodes are for the PowerPress Player (which we don’t use) and for the PowerPress Subscribe embed widget. We certainly can use the widget, but the info from Blubrry seems to indicate that there is another option which we’d like to explore: create a whole new page.

Specifically: there is a section under the Website tab titled “Subscribe Page”, with a link to more info on the Blubrry website. When I click this link and go to the Blubrry “PowerPress Subscribe Page”, I find the following information (a brief part of which I cited in my original post):

How to create your Subscribe Page

To create your page, go to PowerPress settings and select the “Appearance” tab. Under the Subscribe Page settings, click the link “Create a subscribe page from template”. This will create a new static page in your WordPress site using our recommended template. Do not forget to click save.

Once you create this page, we recommend that you edit it and modify the language into your own words. Remember to leave the subscribe shortcode ([powerpress_subscribe]), this displays the subscribe buttons and your show’s artwork and title, optimized for desktop and mobile devices.

    Subscribe Page template

The template is based on months of research. We include instructions on how to subscribe to podcasts targeting the following platforms:

    iPhone and iPad
    MAC and PC (desktop computers)
Android (Android based phones, tablets and other devices)
Your favorite application (instructions how to copy/paste the feed URL)
Bookmark this podcast (instructions how to bookmark the page)

Shawn, it’s entirely possible that I am misunderstanding what is meant (that happens a lot when I deal with tech stuff) but it sure sounds like they are offering something more than a simple widget embed. It sounds like we should be able to create a new, separate page that includes instructions as well as subscribe info. Am I off track?

When you follow the steps I outlined above, do you arrive at a page that looks like this at the top:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/j2w94zj5uifk7vu/Subscribe%20Page.png?dl=0

If not, then you’re probably running an older version of PowerPress and need to update.

Thank you for your continued help, Shawn.

My page looks virtually identical with yours. We just installed PowerPress a few weeks ago; it’s version 7.0.2 which is their latest. The link shown on your page – and mine – which says “Learn more about the PowerPress Subscribe Page” is where I got the info I quoted in my previous post about what appears to be a new, separate page.

brucegwhite, I think you may have found a bug. There should b ea link on the page as well to generate the subscribe page. I am looking into it now.

I am still doing testing but with my quick test I see the link below the screen shot Shawn shared, it will say “Create a subscribe page from Template”. Simply click this link and it will create the subscribe page for you. Once it is subscribed, I recommend editing it and rewording if it is appropriate for the writing style of your website.

If you are editing a category, post type podcasting or podcast channel, then the screen shot Shawn shared is correct. For these podcasts, we expect you to grab the actual short code and paste it into the page where you are writing your custom subscribe page. For example, the Geek News Central podcast used multiple subscribe shortcodes to custom populate his subscribe page: https://geeknewscentral.com/subscribe/

Thank you, Angelo. We are doing a custom podcast channel and our page differs slightly from Shawn’s screen shot. I’d be happy to attach a copy for you to see, but I don’t know how to do that.

I can tell you that the main difference between our two pages is this: under the drop-down menu for selecting a subscribe page, Shawn’s page also has a box where you can enter a subscribe URL “if subscribe page is not hosted on this site.” Our page only has the drop-down menu; it does not have the box for entering a subscribe URL. I don’t know if this difference is important, but it’s clear that our pages do not match.

In addition: whether I look at the standard PowerPress Settings, or the Custom Podcast Channels settings, I do not see any link, anywhere, that says “Create a subscribe page from Template.” So I’m still confused….

The screenshot I posted is from a custom podcast channel on one of my sites. brucegwhite – are you running the latest version of PowerPress?

    Thread Starter brucegwhite

    (@brucegwhite)

Yes, Shawn – per my earlier post we are running version 7.0.2 which I’m told is the latest version.

IF you have selected a page in the drop down menu then the option to specify a web page is hidden.

Can you reply with the link to your website so i can take a look?

brucegwhite – can you follow the instructions in my first reply, take a screenshot of the page you see and e-mail it to me: [email protected] I’d like to see what exactly’s going on there.

Angelo – Thanks for the clarification about the drop-down menu. Our website is .

Shawn – I’ll send an email momentarily.

Wow – somehow I messed up the link function in my prior post. Sorry! Our website:

Okay, I’ve tried twice to enter our website as a “link” and it’s not appearing. So I’ll just type it out:

Thanks for sending the screenshot, Bruce. I’m looking at it now. In order to keep everyone in the loop I’ll reply here instead of by e-mail.

You’ve got the Subscribe Page set to Sermons (https://gardenway.net/Sermons) and I bet this is the problem. The Subscribe Page needs to exist on its own. You don’t want to use it on an existing page like the Sermons page. Here’s what I’d recommend.

1.) Log into your WordPress site and hover over the Pages link in the left-hand sidebar. Click the Add New link in the popup menu.
2.) Name your new page Subscribe to Podcast (or whatever else you’d like that makes sense to you). Don’t enter anything into the body of the page. Click the Publish button.
3,) Hover over the PowerPress link in the left-hand sidebar. Click the Podcast Channels link in the popup menu.
4.) Click the Edit link under the name of your podcast channel.
    5.) Click the Website tab.
6.) In the Subscribe Page dropdown menu, select the page you just made. It’ll probably be called Subscribe to Podcast unless you named it something else.
7.) Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

Let us know if that fixes the problem.
