• I want to make a static front page in the OS Media theme. Everything I’ve read says that I should be able to find “front page displays” option in dashboard>settings>reading but when I go to that page, I do not see anything about the front page display. I am working in Windows. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for any help you can give me.

    The options that show are:
    Blog pages show at most____posts
Syndication feeds show the most recent______items
For each article in a feed, show: full text or summary
    Search Engine Visibility
    Featured Content
    Follower Settings

  • Hi amazonanne,

Does your WordPress admin dashboard for Settings > Reading look different than below?

    I have the same problem.

It used to be just like the picture you posted only a few days or weeks ago, but now it’s just gone and my front page is no longer the front page.

    What did I do?

    Hi Liam,
No, my settings–reading page doesn’t look like that. Mine starts with what is below the pink box in your example “Blog Pages Show at Most” I don’t have the front page displays option at all. I am working in Windows 7 and Chrome but opened it on a Mac in Chrome and still didn’t see it. (Also, similarly, didn’t see infinty scroll options in my settings–general page that I think is supposed to be visible.) Tried with various themes and still could not see the front page displays option. Thanks!

    Hi amazonanne –

Are you able to swap to a different theme to see if its a theme setting that is overriding that default WordPress functionality? I appreciate you may not want to do that on your live (production) site, so maybe making the swap on a staging environment or in a local install would be a better move.

I tried it with different themes and I have the same problem. I tried a bunch of different themes always with the same result. I have now also tried it in Internet Explorer with the same result. Thanks for your continued help!

I’m writing this for ladymusta. After more research, it turns out that my wordpress installation is probably corrupt (possibly caused by a plugin). Apparently there are two ways to fix this. One is from the dashboard and is easy and worked for me. wp-admin>dashboard>updates>Re-install now
This worked for me and I now have the static front page option. If that doesn’t work, there is another way to do it from the cpanel. I didn’t read the details on that one because the easy method worked for me. The link to the article that I found most helpful is https://trustiko.com/reinstall-wordpress-from-dashboard-and-cpanel/

    Good luck!

    @amazonanne

    Thank you.
I will try this. Though I do not have the “Re-Install” button either. Maybe one of the plug-ins messed this up completely.

    Thank you.

Check your list of Pages. Make sure you’ve at least one Page created and Published.

I have the same problem. I’ve deactivated all plugins, I’ve activated twenty-seventeen, and I have one page created and published – Home. I was able to make a menu, so…

    I did a “Re-Install” of WordPress.

I still don’t have any way to specify my home page.

    Thanks so much Liam!

I had the same problem and the culprit in my case was that I didn’t have any page in my db.
The site was just created and, following my check list, I’ve deleted the temporary page created by the installer but, distracted by a phone call, I didn’t create any new page, usually I call the first one “Home”, and switched to the settings area.

For this reason, as I found out, the Reading setting didn’t show the selector to choose if on the home page I waneted to see the lastest posts or a static page. It was latest post by default.

I think that the WP developers should address this.
It’s a rare occurrence but it can be tricky indeed, especially for a new user.

The simplest solution is Publish a new Page (Home) if you don’t have any page. If you have a page already published then also try to publish a new page
