I’ve seen some older posts about disabling the wordpress.com toolbar, but I can’t find that setting on the site I’m working on (built by someone else). It’s not under the Jetpack settings or the site Settings, or my admin user profile. I want the regular WP admin toolbar as the wp.com one has nothing on it that I use or want.
    Any hints? thanks.

  • Hi,

It’s the WordPress.com toolbar option under WP Admin -> Jetpack -> Settings -> Writing.

Otherwise, you can access a list of all Jetpack modules by following this guide:

    https://jetpack.com/support/control-jetpacks-modules-on-one-page/

Once you’re there, you can activate/deactivate any modules you wish. In this case, it’s WordPress.com Toolbar ??

    Thank you for your reply.

That option is not under Jetpack > Settings > Writing.

I went to the module list as you also suggested, and I see the WordPress.com Toolbar module at the bottom. But it won’t deactivate. I’ve tried several times. Nothing changes and the module listing shows in pale blue with the blue border at left like the other active modules.

Could the people who built the site have added some custom code making it impossible to deactivate?

Update – I think I found the problem, it looks like the people who built the site are using the WordPress.com secure sign-on module and maybe also the filter to bypass the default login form, as described here: https://jetpack.com/support/sso/
I do see a setting “WordPress.com login” and it’s turned on. It’s forcing me to login with my WP.com account. I will try turning that off or deactivating that module.

    Hi,

    That makes sense.

I do see a setting “WordPress.com login” and it’s turned on. It’s forcing me to login with my WP.com account. I will try turning that off or deactivating that module.

After this, does the issue persist? If not, we’d like to hear what’s going on and continue to help.

    Cheers, Dat

    Hi,
It turns out the site is actually hosted on WordPress.com as a new type of account – a wp.com Business Plan with the ability to add plugins, so it looks just like a self hosted site from the admin side (other than the toolbar). And this type of site forces you to use the wp.com toolbar (at least for now) unfortunately. Hopefully enough people using this new type of account will complain and the ability to toggle it will be added soon.
    Thanks for your help.

    Ah, that makes sense.

With WordPress.com Business plan, it’s recommended not to deactivate the WordPress.com Toolbar.

However, it’s out of the support here. Please ask your client the owner account of the site and get help faster at https://wordpress.com/help/contact
