can't find homepage

I am trying to add a line of type to the web site “HOME” page. when I go into the WP admin page and click on “Pages” “HOME” page is not shown. All the other pages; Services, Candy & Desserts, Gallery and Contact are there.

I can see the “HOME” page on the web, and view site from within WP. all the menu nav links work (I can see the “HOME” page nav along with all the other nav buttons in the “Menus” page in WP.

What I cannot find is the page where I can add the text to the “HOME” page. I am able to see and modify the source code in Firefox using Firebug, I was able to download (using WebDevil) the actual Index.html file and add the text. I just cannot seem to be able to figure out where it goes on the FTP site OR within WP.

I have started going through all the files and folders on the FTP site but that is frustrating and time consuming, and for someone of my low skill level potentially very bad.

I searched the FAQ’s and tried a few of the solutions offered but so far no joy.
