I have the Related Posts by Zemanta plugin set to automatically display 6 related posts. When I do that I see an edit related posts buttons right below the related posts. Upon clicking this I’m brought to a screen where I can drag and drop the related posts I want to include. I have it set to display 6 slots but for some I do not have 6 related posts I want to include. So after selecting “edit related posts” I drag only the related posts I want to include and select save. When I refresh the page it shows the ones I dragged and dropped in order I dropped them in but it still displays extra posts that are not related and that I did not drag and drop. Is there a way to only display the posts I want as related? Or will the plugin automatically choose additional posts to fill the number of posts I have it set at (6)?

  • Hey, thanks for reaching out & please accept my sincerest apologies for not responding anytime sooner (theres summer holidays took its toll —?sorry)!

As for your inquiry — yes, our plugin will fill the rest of the slots, if you haven’t manually filled them yourself.

The only way for you to have fewer related posts is to change the value in your plugin settings (for example: from 6 to 4). Otherwise it’ll just fill the rest, since it’s obeying your set values.

Let me know if you have any more questions or if there’s still something not absolutely clear — I’ll gladly help!

Take care & have a nice day!

I hope it’s ok to necro this rather than start a new thread…

I ran into this recently too. I just restarted my own site so blog posts are limited for now. However, some categories I have 2 or 3 pages I’d like to display while others only have one. Could you add a toggle that turns the auto-fill functionality off?

On a side note, when I first installed this plugin, I got the “Edit Related Posts” button appearing just below the thumbnails. I messed with some settings and now it’s gone. I tried changing the settings back, but I cannot find anything that will bring it back. What setting dictates showing that button?

    Hey, thanks for reaching out!

We wish that this first option you are mentioning would be possible, but I’m afraid that it isn’t, since most of our users are really used to this feature. Changing this would make it a bit more complicated to understand and we really cannot afford any changes into this direction. Sorry!

As for your second problem (with that orange “Edit Related Posts” button — you can enable it in your plugin settings, if you scroll to the bottom of that page and un-tick the box next to “Only admins can edit Related Posts”. Or make sure that you are logged into your WP Dashboard as administrator.

Either way, do let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions, since I’ll be more than glad to help you out! Take care & I’m looking forward to your reply!

Wow, thank you for the lightning fast response!

It’s a bit surprising and disappointing about the toggle response, but I work in development and business too so I understand how some things can be a lot harder to pull off than they seem.

As for the disappearing “Edit” button, I already had the “Only Admins can edit” unticked and was logged in. However, it seems like it’s showing what I’d consider relevant results for now, so I’ll worry about it more when I have more blog posts and start a separate thread. Thank you for responding again.

Hey, thanks for getting back to me and for your kind words. We truly appreciate it!

Just to be in the clear — is that orange ‘Edit Related Posts’ button in your blog posts showing up again? Are you able to edit your related posts, once the blog post is published? I’m just checking in to see if this is still a problem for you or not.

Also, if the button is appearing and if you are able to edit your related posts — can you search through your related posts, via the search box? This way you can choose from all of your related posts (that were ever published) and not only from those that we recommend you.

Either way, let me know if there’s anything wrong or if there’s something that’s not completely clear, since I’ll be more than glad to help you out!

    Take care!

    Best,
    Silvo
